The house is located in Castelo Branco, in an old part of the city that has been gradually losing population throughout the years.

Our job was to achieve an urban revitalization of the historic center and incentivize younger citizens to move to this area as a means to develop a new atmosphere in that part of the city.

We did that using archetype nuances to establish a new trend in the urban development of the city.

Thus, this intervention was based on maintaining the original exterior of the house while readapting the interior using co temporary minimalism to match the comfort lifestyle of this new generation.

The house has 2 floors and a mezzanine: The lounge and rest area can be found on the ground floor while the upper floors are designed for social functions. The latter, which is accessed through the original building staircase, was renewed by the same spatial amplitude of the roof giving us quite a generous floor-to-ceiling height and luminosity in a once before enclosed space. A skylight was added to the mezzanine space granting a view of the castle from the workstation, as a reminder of the history that this contemporary space is filled with. We wanted the project to be light, casual and welcoming. Therefore, we used simple yet high quality materials, painted the walls and ceiling in light shades and opted for using Scots pine across the floor and furniture.
